Our Experience

Action Scaffold is a family owned business, started in 1953. Establishing ourselves in the rental and erection business in the Southwest, Action brings experience as a user of the scaffold products into the manufacturing business. We know all of the concerns that being a Scaffold Dealer or Contractor must deal with: your customer’s demands, quality of products, competitiveness and relationships. Since 1953 we have built solid long-lasting relationships and that continues to every new account with Action. As one of the founding members of the Scaffold Industry Association (SIA), Action continues to be a leader in the scaffold industry. Jerry Schapira, our current CEO, served as the associations President in 1977. Howard Schapira, Action’s President, served as President of the Scaffold Industry Association from 2004 to 2006. Built on a tradition of honesty, integrity and quality, Action has established itself with the values and experience that will lead us into the future.

Training Classes

SIA Training Program
SCAFFOLD USER HAZARD AWARENESS TRAINING (UHT)
The Scaffold User Hazard Awareness Program is designed to help the scaffold user recognize the hazards on various types of scaffold. It is approximately 3 hours in length and incorporates a Power Point/slide presentation that encourages student participation. This course is not designed for workers that do any type of actual erecting.
PRIMARY ACCESS TRAINING (PAT)
The Primary Access Training course is intended for workers who erect various scaffold types that do not exceed the height to base ratio, usually either 4 to 1 or 3 to 1. The course is in the form of a manual sent out two weeks in advance (for each section) in which students are required to study the contents and answer the self test questions prior to attending a one day session. The one day session will include a review of the manual, instructor demonstrations, practice by the students in erecting and dismantling of a scaffold. Students are evaluated by a written exam as well as erecting and dismantling a scaffold. The pass mark is 70%.
PROFESSIONAL SCAFFOLDER TRAINING (PST)
Scaffolders who continually work in the industry erecting and dismantling scaffolds of various types, regardless of height or configuration, will take one or more of the various courses. There are three levels of training: Level 1, Level 2, and Speciality Level.

Scaffold Safety

Aluminum Scaffold 6' X 6' X 29"

In order to use your scaffold safely and comply with Federal OSHA requirements you may need to obtain a copy of the OSHA regulations that cover the specific type of scaffold you are purchasing. In addition to these regulations, there are several helpful standards and guidelines that have been published to assist you in using these products safely. Below please find several web site links that can assist you in obtaining the materials you need.

www.osha.gov
This web site offers free downloads of the OSHA standards 1926.450 – 1926.454 that govern the proper erection, inspection and use of all scaffold products.

www.scaffold.org
The Scaffold Industry Association (SIA) is a non-profit organization that offers many written, VHS and CD ROM products for purchase created by industry professionals to assist all erectors and users of scaffold. In addition, this organization lists over 60 Accredited Training Institutes throughout the United States and Canada where you can go to receive hands on training for User Hazard Awareness, Competent Person or Professional Scaffold Erecting.

www.nsc.org
The National Safety Council web site offers you the ability to purchase the ANSI A10.8-2001 Safety Requirements for Scaffolding. This set of scaffold standards offers guidelines written by industry professionals to assist you in erecting, inspecting and using scaffold safely.

www.ssfi.org
The Scaffold, Shoring and Forming Institute has co-authored with the SIA a “Code of Safe Practices” that can be downloaded free of charge to assist you by providing some common sense guidelines for erecting and using scaffold. Many scaffold manufacturers like Action Scaffold use these Codes of Safe Practices as our Manufacturer’s Recommendations on how to use scaffold equipment properly. A copy of the Code of Safe Practices is sent with our packing list with each order. The codes should be read and posted for reference when using scaffold.

Scaffolding Safety Advice

According to an article in Scaffolding Matter, it is known that every year thousands of people are injured using scaffolding. The tools and machinery that are used with scaffolding can involve people falling or collapsing, with the opportunity for serious injury or even death to occur.

Here are some safety tips for people using scaffolding boards:

Always use the correct materials for scaffolding support boards

  • Scaffold boards or planks come in a variety of different materials. Materials can include aluminum , or grade 1 wooden boards.

Always inspect the scaffolding boards

  • You must check all the boards for knots, bad grain, splits, warping and other imperfections before using your plank board. Common sense should warn you that a scaffold board will be weak and is likely to give if it has any of these issues.

Storing your scaffold boards

  • It is essential to store your scaffolds in a dry, well ventilated place. Moisture can weaken boards, making them more likely to give out in use.

Do not abuse your scaffold boards

  • Any abuse of the scaffold will inevitably weaken the scaffold boards and make them liable to failure.

“Scaffolding boards are just like a tool, if you take care of them, they will take care of you and you can look forward to not joining the statistics of injuries caused by failure of scaffold boards,” (Scaffolding Matter).
